Cannonvale State School was opened on its present site near Cannonvale Beach in 1969. It is nestled between the coastline overlooking the Whitsunday Islands and the backdrop of the Conway Range.
Prior to July 1969 the local school was located at Cannon Valley, opposite what is now Centro Shopping Centre. The original Cannon Valley State School was opened in 1910 to service the growing farming community in the area.
In 1968 the decision was made to relocate the school as the majority of the students were from Cannonvale. The new school was completed by July 1969 and opened with 84 students.
Since 1969 the local area has seen significant population growth driven by the tourism, agriculture and resource sectors and Cannonvale State School now has approximately 765 students.
