Prep classroom building

Welcome to Prep at Cannonvale State School. What an important date, our first day at school! Here we are ready to guide your child through this amazing year full of fantastic experiences, new friends, new teachers, all those things to learn….

Prep provides the foundation for your child's success at school by developing:

  • the knowledge, understanding and skills detailed in the Australian Curriculum for English, Mathematics, Science and History (Foundation Year)
  • a positive approach to learning
  • independence and confidence
  • creativity and problem-solving skills
  • physical abilities, including gross and fine motor skills.

Please have a look at our Prep Transition Handbook (PDF, 9.1MB).

Prep Head Start program

Do you have a child starting prep at Cannonvale State School in 2020? We encourage you to join our Prep Head Start program!

At Cannonvale State School we recognise the importance of ensuring all children and families feel safe and comfortable in a new school environment.

Our Head Start program is specifically designed for this purpose.

Head Start runs for 8 exciting sessions from week 1 to week 8 in term 4.  During these mornings, you and your child will have the opportunity to participate in fun, purposeful activities and meet our Prep teachers, leadership team and visiting professionals. This is also a fantastic opportunity to get to know other families who are starting on the same journey.

We would like to invite all prospective 2020 Prep students and families to come along, have some fun and help your child have a smooth transition to life of a Preppie.

Session times

  • 9am–10am every Wednesday in the hall
  • 9 October–27 November

You can choose to come to just one, or all of our sessions! Please note - all children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

To start Prep you child needs to be 5 years old by 30 June in the year they start. To determine when your child can commence their prep year, use the prep ready reckoner calculator.

The Education (General Provisions) Regulation 2006 enables principals to consider early entry to Prep for children who turn five years by 31 July.

Please refer to the Local Catchment area map for Cannonvale State School to check if your address is inside the boundaries.
